Joe Baldacci wins backing of national Democratic committee in 2nd District primary

Picking up on an earlier Mastodon Post, the DCCC has come out in support of Joe Baldacci. To my way of thinking, endorsing a Democratic primary candidate before Democrats have had a chance to vote is questionable at best. Who remembers the resounding success of the Democratic establishment doing all they could to screw Bernie Sanders chances of defeating future president Hillary Clinton? This is not to say anything negative about Joe Baldacci. When I was a kid, Bangor ME Democratic meetings tended to occur at the Baldacci's restaurant, The Baltimore. Il Ristorante Sotto Il Ponte. Joe Baldacci would make an excellent candidate, no doubt. In a democracy, though, it seems to me to be best to let democracy run its course, which the DCCC emphatically is not doing.
Off topic, but The Baltimore was one heck of a terrific restaurant.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which is the national campaign arm of the House Democratic caucus, hadn't backed any of the four primary candidates since Congressman Jared Golden announced last fall that he wouldn't seek a fifth term.
From Virginia; note that the _same_ Republican supreme court allowed the election to go forward, and nothing changed except the outcome of the vote.
ICYMI: We found that before the 2024 election, federal prosecutors were “full steam ahead” looking into how a prison gang in Puerto Rico gave drugs to inmates if they voted for a GOP gubernatorial candidate.
After Trump’s election, the investigation evaporated.

Hours after ProPublica reported on how a federal probe of a drugs-for-votes scheme in Puerto Rico's prisons got quashed after the 2024 elections, some of the territory’s political leaders made public calls for investigations into the allegations.

One said the territory’s House has “an inescapable duty to investigate” after the ProPublica report revealed how federal prosecutors had been told to stop looking into whether the scheme was linked to the island's newly elected governor.
