ND Witch 🧠🧙🏻♀️ 1️⃣ Waxing Dramatic; Prose
⚠️ Preamble: Stims
Modernity is understimulating and overwhelming at the same time.
We are pushed so hard to be productive we miss all the magic right in front of us.
We are forced to internalize the productivity mindset to the exclusion of all else, including mental and physical health.
Through meditation and living intentionally I have found stims that help me deal with how disconnected and chaotic society has become, at least American society, where I live.
✨️ Stim the first: Code Switching or Waxing Dramatic.
Whenever it seems fun, using archaic words and modes of speech puts the spice back into conversation! Why not go high 19th century "Truly madam? Pray indulge me!"
Or perhaps cosmic horror 🐙 is more the vibe; "I swung wide the portal and lo, the smell that issued from beyond that yawning abyss struck me as an acrid gale, the noisome odor of something sacred burnt to piquancy, only that chaotic sound of grinding could be its source. I gathered my courage and pushed through despite my terror. It was then I saw the seal, that of a twisted goddess, tentacles issued from where the torso of any sane being would be. Encircled she was in a seal of words that could only be her unholy name, written here, I imagined, for the purpose of binding her from our good and mortal plane. I record here for completeness the words, stars save me, written there. They read only this: Starbucks"
Etc.
Only replies with code switching or dramatic prose will be given notice!
I've been giving my vocal #stims extremely free range… I kind of annoy myself with them. I don't like me making noise and being obnoxious anymore than I like it in other people. It’s a strange dynamic. But it does work to eventually get my brain to a more still and quiet place.
The only vocal stims I do actually thoroughly enjoy are the ones that are just sounds (or sometimes single words) repeated.
The rest of it is me talking mostly nonsense and that grates on me pretty quickly. Often while it's happening I'm thinking ‘what is this? who is this? is this me?’
I often vape or smoke as a stim, I think. There are times where it's not as much about the substance as it is the activity/sensation.
Does anyone have any suggestions for something I could replace that with that's not just... sucking on a pencil or popping a bunch of hard candy?
I read a great blog (by a #Black #Autistic woman) on some the different ways black autistic women #stim compared to white people. Eg playing with hair beads, braids, dancing...
I loved reading this and it opened my eyes to how our culture, environment and body types can change how we stim.
I would love to hear other people's experiences of #CulturallyDifferent #Stims to my own (I am a white Irish cis-gender woman.... So have culturally very boring stims 😂😂 ).
Spent some tine staffing a table at a health fair, supporting our employee group that serves differently abled, #neurodivergent, parents, and #caregivers. It was loud and crowded for a while but we managed! I should have brought more #stims!
Question for the autistics: have you ever gone through a phase of obsessively manipulating bits of paper? Origami? Paper quilling? Removing the labels from crayons and beer bottles?
