For those who like the outdoors , there is always the threat of #ticks. Several species can have bites which can have serious consequences, including #lymedisease.

In #Canada there are several resources for identifying and removing ticks.

One of the key resources is
https://etick.ca/

You can submit a picture of a tick you have found and they will send a detailed report of what you found and its potential dangers.

The other evening after a #turtle patrol, I found this guy on my sock.

This part of the report I got back. I will put the rest in replies.

Stay alert.

Dermacentor sp. (le français suivra)
The tick you photographed is either Dermacentor variabilis or Dermacentor albipictus, two species that can’t be distinguished using photographs. You will find information on both of these species below.

#Cornell entomologist Brian Lovett explains that #ticks are impervious tanks and that flushing them means throwing away valuable #data that could help scientists track tick-borne #diseases. Better options include crushing them, submerging in rubbing #alcohol, or trapping them in a container and sending them to a lab for testing.

This man had to be on a ventilator because of a tick bite because of the Powassan virus.

Concord NH cancelled doing leaf pick up so they could pay for upgrades at the municipal golf course instead. Expect more of this so people can play golf on the taxpayer’s dime.
