#PennedPossibilities 856 — Tell us about the area where your characters live.
The story takes place in Home City, the capital of the world currently named Home. Though situated roughly where northeastern Colorado is today and is landlocked, it is a port city with connections to nine other worlds. The climate is incredibly hot and people stink sweat a lot. Architecturally, it resembles Middle Eastern cities with domes and towers, and similar cement passive cooling structures, without mosques or other religious trapping, but on a more monolithic scale. Practically everything is painted absolute white. The city bustles and were you visiting, it would feel very modern indeed, with a metro system, newspapers, theatres, a university, city lights, and traffic jams in the air and on the boulevards—all without electricity. Day Angels like Bolt live in the upper stories of the city. I'd recommend visiting the rooftop eateries and popup restaurants. It's worth climbing ten flights of stairs to visit the vibrant day angel food culture, if you can't flag down an air taxi.

I'm only now reading issue 97 of Fantasy Magazine (that I got months ago) and I thought I'd share this wonderful story from it that I just read about grief and pain and holding (or not holding) yourself together. It's not even 2,000 words long. It won't take much of your time.

Fantasy Magazine wasn't able to receive enough funding to continue with its revival, so the upcoming issue, 99, will be the last for the forseeable future. I'm sure it would mean a lot to the publisher and the team who works so hard to bring the magazine back, if more people read these stories and put in support for what is still going to be available.
Almost there! About $50 gets me to the first goal to cover production costs. Then I'll go for a $700 stretch goal for vfx gadgets and stuff that will make it easier to create a #solarpunk future! Thank you for supporting me, with ideas to imagine life without capitalism or governments, with boosts, and with donations♥️

I'm making a new short film, which I'll release on my PeerTube channel. It is a final target practice for a feature film (titled Big Tree) that I intend to shoot next year, themed on direct democracy in a near-future solarpunk world. Help me imagine this future with a donation (PayPal is preferred s
I'm still excited about this, so...
RARE (featuring my scifi/noir "The Stuff Legends are Made Of") won the American Writing Awards Best Anthology, and Gas Giant Gambit was a finalist for AWA Fiction - Sci-Fi!
Big thanks to Alex Parker Publishing, and congrats to my fellow contributors to RARE!
Both are available now!

From the Archives w BCS #445: "The Feather Tree" by KJ Kabza, BCS #435 & podcast 348.
"whoever was minding the children that day would shout Loory’s name, splashing through the reeds, until firm cold hands grabbed him under the armpits and hoisted him out of the muck. And as Loory was stubbornly carried east, he would watch the still-unexplored feather tree and reach for those distant boughs that waved at him to come back."

Loory thought about this. It was not the same, exactly, as giving up hope because hope was not a single, stone-fired thing (when once broken, never the same) but a thing like a marshland, made of uncountable pieces of intertwined yet separate life that could live or die or struggle along somewhere in between, and a few dead fish did not a ruined river valley make. But perhaps this wasn't worth explaining.
