Neither Melissa nor Steven believe in much of anything anymore. That's what makes them hard to write right now.

Juniper was aiming for enough money to give her stability and a roof over her head for at least a while.

Her friends all died chasing that goal.

Now she’s on the run, simply trying to survive.

(The fate of a whole city rests upon her, but she doesn’t know that… which is probably for the best. She’s stressed out enough as it is.)

In setting of The Dream, there's a bunch of factions and groups.

- 12 major #werewolf clans, and some minor clans ( my story #SanguineDreams deals primarily with Clan Tsagaansoyoo [major], Clan Tiberius [minor], Clan Kérberos [major])

- There's the Aetherials with their semi-eldritch who-knows-what-their-endgame-is agenda running in the background

- The A.D.M.M. that is a sort of shipping governance body & merchant marines

- The Thresh; invading bugs with ships & weapons that fuckup your day if you run into them

- a handful of others

What goal or prize is your MC chasing, even passively? What goal or prize have they abandoned, and why?

Raquel seeks knowledge, and becomes interested in biochemistry specifically. If she had encountered different people it would have been something else related to living things.

She also wants to help heal the trauma of someone she admires. Maybe in a different style of fiction, Rosa would be considered a prize to chase — yuck.

By testing a hypothesis on herself, Raquel abandons being a biologically typical human, but was that ever a goal? Other than that, she's a teenager, so it's too early to be giving up on anything.

A different concept of "main" would make Doc the MC. Her prize is the destruction of the company she works for: revenge, redemption, and knowing no more innocent people will be harmed by it.

If she has abandoned something, it was a future with the person she loved. It wasn't her choice, but she doesn't look for anyone new either. Everyone who wouldn't become endangered by being in her life works for her. Ordering assassinations is one thing, hitting on employees an unacceptable other.

Doc has abandoned a healthy work/life balance, freedom from addiction, and having no contradictions in her morals. If she succeeds and survives, it will all be worth it to her.

Only everything. The world turned upside down, the death of kings and tyrants, the new world in the shell of the old. He's given up on believing in it actually happening, and in happiness or even survival for himself.

Bella wants to break a curse and end a war. This is her goal and she is ready to give her life for it.
For that goal she has abandoned being crown princess and one day becoming queen of the realm.

The punk mindset has always been a perfect fit for Zane; he's been pushing *against* something for most of his 40-some years. Making a Faustian bargain in front of an audience seemed like one more kick in the face to a culture steeped in self-righteous hypocrisy.

He's going to need to stand *for* something pretty soon; he just doesn't know what it is yet.

Nathan is incorrigible, he’s always got his eye on the main chance when he’s not being distracted by having to deal with some new threat to the magical community.

Funnily enough though, it’s usually whilst dealing with some magical or supernatural threat when he makes his best discoveries.

In the first scene of the books, Jann loses his home.

Book 1 is about finding a new home.
Book 2 is about recognizing the new home.
Book 3 is about defending the new home.

That might only be clear to the author, but yes. That is Jann's quest.
