"US vice president JD Vance will find he is “every bit as unwelcome” in the UK as Donald Trump, protests have warned, as they announced plans to demonstrate against his visit.

"Vance is expected to visit the Cotswolds in South West England next month with his wife and three young children.

"The visit will come shortly after Donald Trump completes a five-day tour of some of his golf courses in Scotland.

"Trump is due to arrive on Friday, after which he will meet with Sir #KeirStarmer in Aberdeen. He will then visit #TrumpTurnberry golf club on the west coast of #Scotland before opening a new course on his #MenieEstate in #Aberdeenshire, on the north-east coast.

"They have since added that Vance will also find 'resistance waiting' when he arrives in England a week later."

"From #Scotland to #California, golf courses are being rewilded – with lofty aims to benefit both people and #nature.

"Sinking into nature comes easy at the #PlockOfKyle. I visit this tiny wedge of parkland on the west coast of Scotland, just across the bridge from the Isle of Skye, on a rainy day in late September, and park ranger Heather Beaton and I spend the afternoon wandering around its various #ecosystems-in-miniature.

"We clamber over rocks at one of its little hidden natural harbours. We freeze as black darter dragonflies land on her pink shoe by a pond. And we bend to peer at circles of huge mushrooms which have sprung up overnight in its tiny woodland.

"A #WildflowerMeadow, ponds, scrub habitat, coastline and even an area of peat bog can be found on this little 60-acre (24-hectare) plot, which boasts roe deer, otters, lizards, eels and a huge array of insects and birds. 'We do describe it as a microcosm of Scotland,' says Beaton. 'If you think of all of the major habitats of Scotland, we've got them here on the Plock, just in miniature.' It's an impression she works to cultivate. 'The more little pockets we have, the more chance a person has to... end up having a nature experience,' she says.

"All of these habitats had fallen into serious disarray until a few years ago, says Beaton. In fact, most of this area used to be a golf course.

"The Plock is part of a small but significant global trend of land once used for golf being turned back over to nature. From #California to #Pennsylvania and #Australia to #Canada, these projects are reaping in some big rewards for both #biodiversity and local people."

#PétrusseValley to undergo second phase of #rewilding

The Pétrusse rewilding project and redesign of the adjoining park aim to be finished for the 2027 school year

"The second phase of the rewilding of the Pétrusse valley, extending from the #BourbonLock to #RuedAnvers in #Luxembourg City, is set to begin in spring.

"The valley has already been #rewilded along a section extending from Rue St. Ulric to the Bourbon lock during the first phase of the larger project, which began in 2020.

"The City of Luxembourg, in collaboration with the Ministry of the #Environment, #Climate, and #Biodiversity, held a press conference on Monday outlining the details of the second phase, which includes the installation of stands and balconies along the route and a new multi-purpose sports field.

"'The rewilding of the Pétrusse valley represents an exceptional project for the City of Luxembourg, aiming to enrich our environment while improving the quality of the citizens’ lives,' Mayor Lydie Polfer said.

"The rewilding initiative came just days after a European Commission report on water quality showed rapidly declining results in Luxembourg.

"The first report, in 2009, indicated that 7% of the country’s surface waters were in good ecological condition, before falling to 3% in 2015 and finally reaching 0% in 2021. The ecological status is influenced by water quality such as #pollution and #habitat #degradation. It is used to define the overall status of water bodies.

"The #EuropeanUnion wants all surface waters to be in good condition by 2027. Under the #EuropeanWaterFrameworkDirective (#WFD) – which sets markers for water quality, the country has to see its standards improve.

"'#Restorations are perfect measures to adapt to the increasing challenges of #ClimateChange while contributing to the improvement of #biodiversity, #WaterQuality and increasing the quality of life of our citizens,' Environment Minister Serges Wilmes said."

For #FungiFriday I wanted to present this amazing #mushroom I encountered in a #rewilded patch of woods near #Eunice #Louisiana. This colorful #fungus is a Column Stinkhorn! It has a brown viscous fluid under its hollow crown that attracts flies due to its smell of decay. These flies subsequently distribute its spores. I have never actually seen one of these before. The photos were taken last week.
