Protesters deliver coffin to GOP congressman’s front door in mock funeral procession, wild video shows

July 31, 2025

"More than two dozen protesters were captured on video last week delivering a faux coffin and flowers to the Wisconsin home of House Administration Committee Chairman #BryanSteil, R-#Wisconsin.

"The unwanted visitors, dressed in black and carrying cowbells, walked up the congressman’s private driveway in what appeared to be a mock funeral procession, before dropping a cardboard coffin prop with an epitaph at his front door.

"Former Walworth County Democrat Party Chairwoman Ellen Holly was identified in the video footage posted to social media allegedly walking up to Steil’s front door, along with several other constituents from previous protests.

"Prior to the '#DeathOfDemocracy' funeral procession, sponsored by the Southern Wisconsin Grassroots Network and Working Families Party, an organizer could be heard on a Facebook Live video saying, 'We’re not going to hang out here because we’re not going to invite the police to come and ask questions, and say, ‘What are you doing here, blah, blah, blah.’ We’re just going to get out of town.'

"Following the demonstration, protesters could be seen walking across Steil’s front yard, forgoing the sidewalk, and commenting on photo opportunities in front of the home.

"A photo of the coffin and epitaph at the front door was later posted to Facebook by another group involved. One commentator asked for the lawmaker’s home address.

"This incident has been reported to U.S. Capitol Police (#USCP). It is unclear if any of the #protesters are facing criminal charges.

" 'It’s disappointing that Democrat leadership and the radical left resort to these type of tactics,' Steil told Fox News Digital. 'I remain committed to my work to get this country back on track and will not be deterred by their threats.'

"Ravi Mangla, National Press Secretary for #WorkingFamiliesPower, told Fox News Digital the incident was less concerning than Steil’s policies."

#Teen #artists portrayed their lives — some adults didn't want to see the full picture

Excerpt: "The #protesters in the mural hold signs that read 'The climate is changing, why aren't we?' 'No human is illegal,' 'Protect kids, not guns' and '#FreePalestine.'

"Mary Beth Tinker was impressed when she saw the mural on her way to speak about #freespeech. She said she "encouraged the students because they were making this beautiful mural about issues that they cared about. One of the issues featured was Free Palestine. And that's an issue that I care about.'

"Tinker has a long history of advocating for free speech. In 1965, when she was an eighth-grader in Iowa, she and other students were suspended for wearing black armbands to school to protest the #VietnamWar. The incident led to the Supreme Court case Tinker v. Des Moines, in which a majority court ruled that students do not 'shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate.'

"Tinker said she often tells students, 'You always can be proud of speaking up about the things that you really believe in because that's a life of integrity.'

Smithsonian officials were not impressed

"Flair Doherty said a Smithsonian staff member approached her and the other teen artists and told them she believed the 'Free Palestine' slogan was 'antisemitic and hateful.' Doherty, who is Jewish, said she told her she disagreed, 'We talked for maybe three minutes and did not really get anywhere.'

" 'We went over the next day and it was completely covered in tarps,' said 18-year-old artist Léda Pelton, who had not yet finished her section of the mural about cars and college acceptance.

"Pelton said Smithsonian officials told them they covered it up because they were 'afraid that somebody was going to walk by and see 'Free Palestine' on our mural and get mad and hurt us. And I'm like, 'maybe we are not the problem in that situation.' "

How Surveillance Tech is Being Used to ID and Charge Portland Protesters

Surveillance technology is helping criminalize resistance. On July 24, a criminal complaint was filed in federal court. Less than 24 hours later, FBI agents raided the defendant’s home in Portland, OR while they had rifles drawn on them and their housemates. By Monday, July 28, the defendant stood in

“Ring is rolling back many of the reforms it’s made in the last few years by easing police access to footage from millions of homes in the United States. This is a grave threat to civil liberties in the United States. After all, police have used Ring footage to spy on protestors, and obtained footage without a warrant or consent of the user.”

Shockerz... 🤔

"The #UniversityofCalifornia, #LosAngeles, will pay nearly $6.5m to settle a #lawsuit by #Jewish #students and a professor who said the university allowed #antisemitic #discrimination to take place on #campus during last year’s pro-#Palestinian #protests.

The lawsuit alleged that with the “knowledge and acquiescence” of #university officials, #protesters prevented Jewish students from accessing parts of campus, and made antisemitic threats. Under the settlement agreement announced on Tuesday, the university admitted it had “fallen short” and agreed to pay $2.33m to eight groups that support #UCLA’s Jewish community, $320,000 to a campus initiative to fight antisemitism, and $50,000 to each plaintiff."
