Visitors to the #Cotswolds can now book combined train and bus journeys on a single ticket following a partnership between Great Western Railway (GWR) and Pulhams Coaches.

The scheme adds Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold and Chipping Norton to GWR’s Rail Link network. Passengers can travel by train to Moreton-in-Marsh and connect to Pulhams’ 801 bus service using one ticket purchased online and delivered as an e-ticket.

The 801 route has been designated a GWR Rail Link service, with joint branding aimed at making connections clearer for passengers.

GWR, Pulhams, #Gloucestershire County Council and #Oxfordshire County Council said the initiative will make travel simpler, support local economies and encourage more sustainable journeys. Pulhams said use of the 801 service has risen by 60% since improvements including more frequent services and extended operating hours were introduced.

The Cotswolds village that I had to return to

I have been travelling around the UK for more than 3 years. What I have realised from all these explorations is that - even though UK spreads across a small area, there are numerous things to do here, and plenty for places to see. So I try to see as much as possible within the time I have, hence tend to avoid visiting places that I have seen already. But this time, I had to make an exception. I visited Castle Combe, one of the most picturesque villages in the UK, in autumn 2025. This time […]

Our Grand Tour

By Catherine Parker Driving down to Chipping Norton from Manchester took us just under 3 hours. Maps took us on the toll road on the M6 to avoid 30 minutes of traffic in the Birmingham congestion. Although, in the van, this is £20 out of pocket for the luxury. As we got closer to our camping site, the villages we drove through were spectacular. If you get a chance, drive through Long Compton; it is the prettiest village with streets lined with thatched cottages. We slowed down our van, […]

Nine-day road resurfacing in Willersey causes 10-mile diversion for motorists

A planned road closure in the Cotswolds village of Willersey, England, is causing significant disruption for both residents and visitors due to resurfacing works on a key local route. The closure affects the main street through Willersey and Broadway Road (B4632), which is shut daily between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. from May 26 until June 5. Although the resurfacing work covers a relatively short stretch of less than two miles, drivers are being diverted onto a much longer alternative route exceeding 10 miles. The official diversion directs traffic along the A44 via Pitchers Hill through Wickhamford, then onto the A46 toward Aldington, before looping through Bretforton and continuing via the B3045 and B4632 past Weston Subedge. Additional restrictions are also in place on Campden Lane, further limiting access to and from parts of the village during the works. Authorities have stated that through traffic will not be able to pass the closure point during working hours, requiring motorists to plan alternative journeys or adjust travel schedules. Gloucestershire County Council has explained that the closure is necessary to safely carry out carriageway resurfacing and allow for the movement of machinery and materials. Under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, a temporary traffic order was issued to implement the works. Officials acknowledged the inconvenience but emphasized that the project is essential for maintaining road safety and infrastructure quality, and they aim to complete the work as efficiently as possible. The closure is expected to impact daily commuting patterns, local access, and tourism in the scenic Cotswolds area during the nine-day period.
