To whomever this may concern and to get you a break from the international news:

Your daily driver Windows computer is not obsolete after October 13th 2026. And above all it is NOT E-waste.

Your Apple computer is not E-waste if Tim Cook says so.

Chances are that even the beige DELL tower from 2003, which is currently holding the barn door open, is not obsolete.

And if you have an old/broken computer: please sell or donate it. If nothing else, someone can learn to solder working on it.

Contact your local IT nerd for further questions. The one with an Atari or Amiga T-shirt. Someone you know will know one.

@ashwin besides that #Microsoft also actively counters #Linux by paying the big #OEM|s like #hp, #Dell & #Lenovo $25 per #Windows - preinstall and doesn't allow #Refurbishers and manufacturers to offer i.e. @ubuntu / #UbuntuLTS instead of #Windows10 or #Windows11 if they want cheap #OEM or #MAR license keys.

Same with #Education - Licensees like some Secondary Education Institutions: They won't be admitted ti tgeir "Microsoft Academy" program if they were to teach #Linux, #BSD's or #Unix instead - maybe with the exception of #macOS because that's not a threat to #Microsoft since they sell #MicrosoftOffice and #VisualStudio for #Macs and #Apple is one of the biggest #Azure clients...

Not to mention Windows on it's own doesn't need to made profit as it's a customer acquisition and milking tool (aka. "Razer & Blades Model") whereby users ROI those subsidies with #Office365 & #XboxGamePassPC subscriptions, because that's where the real margins are.

Like with so many examples, just because "the majority" uses/likes something doesn't mean it's good - period!
