Terry Mahoney playing (or pretending to play) foosball with my friend Adama in Zegoua, Mali (2003). Terry was the only person from back home to visit me during my two years in the Peace Corps. An RPCV, himself, he used to regularly join me on a radio show where we played international music (I'm not a fan of the term "world music", which is the show's title). He'd bring music he'd collected from all over the world, but particularly Côte d'Ivoire, where he served.

He's now taken over as host of the show, for maybe the last 20 years! You can hear him on WVFS Tallahassee's stream, https://wvfs.fsu.edu/ Sundays from 4-6pm EST.

I guess posting all those cassette pictures got me reminiscing!

A collection of 100+ cassettes I bought (or was gifted) when I was in #Mali as a Peace Corps Volunteer (2001-2003)

I tried to categorize them in each image:
1. Mali
2. Côte d'Ivoire
3. Sénégal
4. DRC
5. Burkina Faso
6. Nigeria, Guinea, southern Africa
7. #Bollywood

Disco Dancer still might be my favorite movie. After hearing the soundtrack, I searched all over the country for screenings and finally found one in someone's yard, with an old 16 mm projector on a tattered white cloth.
