New here, and by that I mean that this is a brand new instance. Single user GoToSocial instance, self-hosted on my own hardware; this is not my first. It's just like that scene from the Matrix with the Architect: we just keep torching it and starting over, and we're starting to get pretty damned good at torching it. I've had a WriteFreely instance before, and I think I might have another one here in the near future, honestly. GED in 2011 at 17; no qualifications otherwise, at least literally on paper. No human children; cat dad, though. NixOS diehard on desktop/server. The host machine for the VM for this server, as well as the VM itself, both run NixOS and always will. Currently using Niri on the host machine and loving it. GrapheneOS diehard on mobile. Love projects, especially the kind that are never finished because they're never supposed to be. Grew up in Oregon and moved to New Mexico with my family when they did. I ride a unicycle. Trying to learn violin. These things don't necessarily have anything to do with each other, I hope. What is HardTech?
Hardtech is a #scifi project I have: a scifi documentation website; a website that describes in details fictional technologies. A kind of user manual for a spacecraft/space station.
The aesthetics are rusty, unsafe, industrial. You must see wires in the spaceships/space station, you must not feel safe when you're on board. Main colors are various orange and black.
Hardtech is LowTech
Why? Because HardTech needs to know technologies in details to make them understandable for other people, but needs to stay technical and cryptic enough to keep the sense of wonder.

Qu'est-ce que HardTech ?
Hardtech est un projet de #sciencefiction que j'ai en tête : un site web de documentation de science-fiction ; un site web qui décrit en détail des technologies fictives. Une sorte de manuel d'utilisation pour un vaisseau spatial ou une station spatiale.
L'esthétique est rouillée, dangereuse, industrielle. On peut voir des câbles dans les vaisseaux spatiaux/la station spatiale, on ne doit pas se sentir en sécurité à bord. Les couleurs principales sont diverses nuances d'orange, de jaune et de noir.
HardTech est LowTech
Pourquoi ? Parce que pour être HardTech on doit connaître les technologies en détail pour les rendre compréhensibles aux autres, mais doit rester suffisamment technique et cryptique pour préserver le sense of wonder.
