The #Psalter concluded with a compelling image: those who would weep while sowing would celebrate and rejoice at the harvest.

#Israel had experienced great sorrow in their devastation and exile; having thus "sowed," they would reap joy when God restored them to the land.

The disciples "sowed" with great mourning when Jesus died, and they "reaped" great joy when He arose from the dead.

The #Psalter could rejoice in the restoration of #Jewish people to #Zion, but not all was well. The people remained under the oppressive hand of #pagan overlords. They yearned for #liberation and refreshment.

True restoration and refreshment would come from the life, death, resurrection, ascension, lordship, and imminent return of #Jesus the Christ. We do well to seek restoration of our well-being in Him.

Throughout the Old and New Testaments we find references to the #nations as #witnesses of what God was accomplishing in and through His people.

The #Psalter exulted in the vindication of YHWH and His people as seen and attested by the nations.

We do well to remember how "Gentile" is a translation of the Greek term ethne, meaning "nations."

In Christ the nations are no longer mere witnesses, but invited to share as active participants in God in Christ through the Spirit.

The #Psalter gave voice to #Jewish people as they would ascend to #Jerusalem and the Second #Temple for festivals and holidays.

He gave voice to what they felt regarding their restoration to the land after the experience of exile.

It was like they were dreaming; they celebrated and rejoiced.
