The Guardian reported today that Israeli operatives have been conducting extensive surveillance on U.S. forces and allied personnel stationed at the new U.S. base in Israel, citing sources briefed on disputes over both overt and covert recordings of meetings and internal discussions.
The scale of Israeli intelligence gathering inside the Civil-Military Coordination Center (CMCC) reportedly became so severe that the U.S. commander of the base, Lt. Gen. Patrick Frank, summoned his Israeli counterpart and warned him directly that “recording has to stop here.”
Personnel from other countries working or visiting the CMCC have also expressed concern, noting that Israel has been recording inside the facility, prompting some to be explicitly advised not to share sensitive information due to the risk that it could be collected or misused.
