"Research Funding Slows Again for Universities Targeted by White House."

The Trump admin has put holds on many approved research grants to #Harvard, #Duke, #Princeton, and #Yale. For example, as of May 1, #NSF had only awarded about 10% of its research funds, half as much as in past years. But when media like #NYTimes asked about these holds, the admin lifted about a dozen of them, without explaining why it had blocked them or why it changed its mind.

He killed his brother in the family’s luxury apartment and committed suicide in prison: the Matthew Hertgen case.
Matthew Hertgen, 31, the young man accused of having murdered his younger brother Joseph in the family’s luxurious apartment in Princeton, New Jersey, was found dead in prison in what authorities believe was a suicide. Several U.S. media outlets, including the New York Post, citing investigative sources and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, reported the incident.
The case shocked the United States for the brutality of the murder that occurred last February and for the seemingly suspicious profile of the Hertgen family, who were very well-known in the Princeton community. Matthew and Joseph had both been promising soccer players at Toms River North High School; the former later attended Wesleyan University, while the latter graduated with a degree in economics from the University of Michigan and worked as a financial analyst.
According to the New York Post’s reconstruction, Matthew Hertgen killed his 26-year-old brother by striking him with a knife and a golf club inside the family’s apartment in the Michelle Mews residential complex, where apartments can cost millions of dollars. Investigators found a knife, a fork, and a blood-stained plate next to the body. Investigative sources cited by the tabloid claim that the man also ripped an eye out of his brother and ingested it.
The family cat was also killed and set on fire during the attack, according to sources cited by the American newspaper. What makes the story even more unsettling are some posts published months before on Facebook by Hertgen, which contained poems and phrases with apocalyptic and violent tones. In one of the texts, references to “knives sharpening,” “blood flowing from the eyes,” and people “suffocated” by an invisible presence appeared. After his arrest, investigators analyzed these content in an attempt to understand the man’s psychological profile.
The father of the two brothers, David Hertgen, is a well-known executive in the technology sector and the financial president of WiLine Networks. The family lived between the Princeton area and the New Jersey Shore and was described by friends and acquaintances as a “perfect” family.
Matthew Hertgen was charged with murder and faced life in prison. According to American media reports, in the weeks following his arrest, he showed severe psychiatric problems and behaviors compatible with a state of delusion.
