You Might Also Like: Overcast's new Promos & Reruns filter!

In the latest update, you can now skip reruns of old episodes and promos for other shows ("you might like", “introducing”, etc.) that some podcasts insert into their feeds.

It’s a global setting called Promos & Reruns, and it can be customized per-podcast.

Aaannddd… the number-one customer request:

EPISODE IMAGES! A surprisingly big undertaking, but it's finally here.

Check it out in the App Store today.

If you're on the TestFlight beta, you may see disruption in the new per-episode-image feature over the next few days due to, uh… "an issue with an upstream partner".

This should not affect podcasts' main images.

Version 2025.11 is now in the App Store! Major changes:

- Brand new downloader for more reliable downloads

- Better streaming, especially in slow or spotty network conditions (it won't kick you out and make you start over on failures anymore)

- Improved Apple Watch background sync and downloads

- Detects if your ad-blocking router, VPN, or DNS is blocking a download and tells you how to fix it

It’s one of those updates with zero new features… but huge upgrades to everyday functionality.

The rewrite fixed a lot of issues, but I hear you on some big remaining trouble areas.

Now that the iOS 26 update is done, I'm focusing significantly on quality improvements.

First up: today's beta brings massive improvements to downloads, streaming, and Apple Watch background updates.

Pulled the ripcord and promoted the replica to primary.

Downside: some work and a bunch of time to set up a new replica

Upside: everything should now be working again immediately

Still pretty upset at Akamai for doing this without warning. All other recent migrations have been performed with advance notice and maintenance windows with early-fire options. I don't know what happened here — with my MOST important server.

I've found the issue. My hosting company, Akamai (Linode), decided to forcibly migrate my primary database to another server without notice.

I apologize for the downtime. Looking into mitigations.

Having some server issues tonight. I'm aware of it and looking into it!

Feels like a host networking issue to me so far.

Suddenly unable to reorder lists correctly?

This is a bug in iOS 26.0 that's fixed by rebooting the phone.

(Really.)

I'm trying something.

It's a bit of a risk. 😬

By default, URLSession (the iOS HTTP library) saves any cacheable responses to a temp directory within the app's container, and… seems to NEVER delete them.

It didn't affect audio downloads (they're handled differently), but in my testing, this often contained hundreds or thousands of temp files from long-running installs, mostly podcast-artwork images.

In this update, the app manually deletes them all, and switches subsequent requests to in-memory-caching only.

@[email protected] Glad to see space usage dropped from 50GB to around 2GB :-) Curious to hear the root cause of that :-)
