After working on something "big and ambitious" with Xbox, the Spyro and Crash studio wants to tackle another iconic platformer: Banjo-Kazooie

"I think we all can agree Banjo's been hibernating long enough, right?"

My first #gamedev projects with Visual Basic were simple. I'd take a picture container, stetch it over the window form, and boom, that was my background. I could load images into it, and scroll it with simple commands. I could put other picture boxes inside that picture box, like sprites, albeit with no alpha channel. I could send events on key down, which let me map the keyboard to stuff. I made quite a few simple #platformers and #shmups this way.
Monster Business: The Wild Amiga Platformer You Might’ve Missed - The Oasis BBS

UK Gaming Network explores Monster Business, a 1991 Amiga platformer by Eclipse. A chaotic mix of Mr. Do! and Dig Dug, it’s an odd gem worth a second look.

This NES/C64 Platformer Should Have Been Impossible - In-Depth Review

Back with some more Atari ST retro goodness, is I believe one of my most played titles was James Pond 2: Codename RoboCod. A colourful and brisk platform game, with music that just drilled deep into your brain tissue and would stay with you for decades. I hadn't loaded this up for like 29 years and I can still hum certain level's music.

What got me about this game was the absolute tonne of secrets you could find. Every level has some weird and wonderful trick you could pull to find many hidden items / levels or God modes. Again, I turned this on recently and all the secrets just came flooding back. But boy, RoboCod IS hard to control!

A Turbo Grafx-16 Game that Never left Japan:

What an original title! Much skills.

I am quite deep into the Turbo Grafx-16 library, and who can blame me? It has such a vast library when you look at its Japanese exclusive releases.

Mizubaku Daibouken, also Liquid Kids in English, is originally arcade release. Later ported to Turbo Grafx-16.

It is a platformer, as you can tell I am quite into the genre. But what makes it stand out is that its graphics are so crisp and clear. That game has the style which is complimented by the aforementioned graphical quality, which is rare. Even for the modern games.

The gameplay feels snappy. Jumping, throwing water bubbles and traversal throughout levels require deliberation, memorizing the patterns but when you consider the quality of the gameplay I would say it is well worth of effort.

Turbo Grafx-16 have plenty of platformers but few of them are as good as Mizubaku Daibouken.

The mascot is adorable too, and such adorableness manifested throughout every inch of the game. Background design, enemy sprites all of them netizens of this beautiful game.

I would say it is an amazing game. You should definitely consider playing it if you are into platformers, nay, if you are into gaming.
