Delighted to fire up #Inform #interactiveFiction parser #textAdventure game system for the first time in too many weeks (dratted #neuro illness plus #covid), and work again on my intended entry for #IFComp later this year. I love #coding in Inform - it's a ridiculously fun IDE, more like playing a text adventure game than traditional coding. #IFComp2024. #parserGames #GameDev #IndieGames
My brand new #Infocom style Horror #adventure "The Ghosts of Blackwood Manor" is due to be released soon for all major home computers of the #80s. Here are some in-game screens from #Amstrad #CPC and #Commodore64. You're going to love this! Who's ready? #IF #interactivefiction #fiction #retrogames #gamedev #parsergames

In 9 days, it'll be the 3-year anniversary of my #retrogaming #textadventure "Tristam Island"!

It's never been very expensive, but now feels like the right time to stop selling it... So I'm happy to announce that I'm working on making it #free #opensource ! #fosstodon

The source code, the build scripts - I also want to write a postmortem and give access to the pre-sale only feelies. Anything else you'd like to see in there? 🤔

News from my #InteractiveFiction #parsergames #Cento:

Cooked up a Python script telling me how many sentences are in my source code. Right now, with the intro + 3 key "cutscenes" fully written, I'm at 430 distinct sentences coming from 380 different parser games! Love it - and that's without the "game" part 😉

Next step is going to be nailing down the full details for the game, including puzzle dependency chart. So i guess I'm not diving into more quotes for a while!

Viv plays through past IF games

Taking a slight detour from Knight Orc tonight - I haven’t had long enough this week to give it a good play. Hopefully next week! However tonight I had a go at a shorter game, a replay for me. So here are some thoughts. Beware there are spoilers. All Roads by Jon Ingold (2001) This relatively short parser game won IF Comp in 2001. It sees you as a character who can step mysteriously between scenes, while you play through a story of intrigue in Renaissance Venice. There’s a lot to like about i...

Was just stunned by a #SpringThing #interactiveFiction game. I was so gobsmacked that the review I then wrote could only start with "Wow. I’m not quite sure what to say about this." https://intfiction.org/t/viv-dunstan-s-2023-spring-thing-autumnal-jumble-impressions/61524/38 #indieGames #textAdventures #gameDev #creativeWriting #parserGames
Viv Dunstan’s 2023 Spring Thing & Autumnal Jumble impressions

Repeat the Ending by Drew Cook Wow. I’m not quite sure what to say about this. It’s a parser piece, which can be played to an extent as a traditional parser game, episodic in this case. But it’s also metatextual, highly experimental, and in places for me was profoundly affecting. The metatextual side is perhaps the least spoilery I can go into. It adds a guide you can interact with, that expands, and provides hints. You can also read in game footnotes. This is reminiscent of some discussion on...

Musing an early in-development #Inform7 #InteractiveFiction game. Brainstorming some ideas to move the plot on in #Twine. Which I haven’t used much, certainly not for any long-term Twine piece of interactive fiction. But I do like to brainstorm in it some times.
