@LinuxTorvaldIsGod I know that #GTK is very popular among developers on the #Linux platform, but isn't it possible to find alternatives for all of these applications [1]?

The #KDE / #QT ecosystem also has excellent applications (#Krita, #LibreOffice QT, #KDEnlive, #Shotcut, #QGIS, #DigiKam, #OBSStudio, #Friction, #PDF4QT, ...). There are many #Electron-based applications (#Chromium, #RStudio, #Slack, ...) and those applications using other toolkits (#Blender, ...)

If you mean actual PDF editing (without the need to import from or export to PDF), then there is only one open source project:
#PDF4QT https://flathub.org/apps/io.github.JakubMelka.Pdf4qt
This is an actual PDF editor. For smaller tasks, there are several apps for reading, highlighting, marking, commenting, reshuffling of pages etc.

If you also consider a #PDFEditor which is not open source, then there is #Qoppa #PDFStudio . It is very comprehensive and similarly powerful as Acrobat: https://www.qoppa.com/pdfstudio/

@prokoudine Are you aware of the PDF editor PDF4QT? It's maybe something for the Libre Arts update. It is a relatively new open source PDF editing application with a variety of advanced features (including editing of PDF content, e.g. changing text).
It was released (v.1.4 with editing capabilities) a few weeks ago, but Flathub was just updated now:

Can anyone help to create a Flatpak?

It's about PDF4QT, an open source PDF editor, and the developer Jakub asks if anyone can help creating the Flatpak: https://github.com/JakubMelka/PDF4QT/issues/212#issuecomment-2494572018

Please update the version of PDF4QT on Flathub / Flatpak · Issue #212 · JakubMelka/PDF4QT

I would like to try PDF4QT, but there are no .deb files, nor is the recent version on Flathub. Flathub still shows the version 1.3.7. Please update it there to the most recent version. Is there any...

Open source #PDFeditor. Jakub Melka released #PDF4QT 1.4, the first version that is able to edit text, graphics within a #pdf

...it doesn't know that the axis description 1,2,3 of a figure are related (to itself and the figure).

The more complex way of conversion is the recognition of PDF content streams (as Jakub Melka implements in #PDF4QT) which allows to identify a text paragraph (instead of just a single line) and objects that are in reference to each other (e.g. a figure and its coordinate system).

Is my understanding correct wrt the difficulties of PDF conversion to e.g. Inkscape?

@[email protected] FYI, here the developer of #PDF4QT #Jakub_Melka explains his work on the editing of #PDF streams (images, text) and the progress in this regard:

Is REAL pdf text editing planned ? · Issue #42 · JakubMelka/PDF4QT

Thanks for your great work! REAL pdf text editing means I can edit the original text of the pdf , rather than add cooments text on pdf. There are almost no free pdf editor can achieve this feature,...

@[email protected] To my knowledge there are two real #PDFeditor on #Linux. Both are not #FOSS. I am using #Qoppa #PDFStudio (https://www.qoppa.com/pdfstudio/) which has all the features I need. There is also #MasterPDFEditor (https://code-industry.net/masterpdfeditor/). In terms of #FOSS, no #PDF editor exists. #PDF4QT (https://jakubmelka.github.io/) aims at getting there, but it is not yet there. The other frequently suggested programs are #LibreOffice Draw and #Inkscape, but both don't preserve/edit the PDF, but import/export it.
PDF Studio - PDF Editor Software for Mac, Windows and Linux

Need PDF editing software? PDF Studio is an affordable, user-friendly, all-in one PDF editor that works on Windows, Mac and Linux!

Qoppa Software - Java PDF Library and Tools

@chiraag I'm making a list of all my software. Most of the Windows only stuff is rarely used, so can sit in a Windows VM.

The exception is my PDF editor, the paid version of PDF-XChange Editor. It is great for quickly assembling docments from other pdfs. What do you use for PDF editing?

Is #pdf4qt as good as it seems?
