Tropical disturbance in southwestern Gulf has 20% chance of cyclone formation

The disturbance could bring heavy rainfall to the Houston and Galveston areas on Friday, according to the National Weather Service, which says strong rip currents also can be expected along the Gulf Coast on Friday and Saturday.

The National Weather Service office for the Houston and Galveston region is monitoring a low-pressure disturbance over the Gulf that has a 40% chance of developing into a tropical depression as it tracks westward.
