Sono stati recuperati anche gli ultimi due corpi del gruppo di cinque italiani morti in un’immersione nell’atollo di Vaavu, nelle Maldive. Sono quelli della 23enne Giorgia Sommacal e dell’assegnista di ricerca all’Università di Genova Muriel Oddenino. Proseguono le indagini delle autorità locali: secondo le prime indiscrezioni trapelate da queste ultime, la professoressa dell’Università di Genova, biologa marina Monica Montefalcone, madre di Sommacal, indossava una tuta corta che non sarebbe considerata del tutto adeguata a un’immersione in grotta a oltre 50 metri di profondità. Anche la Procura di Roma ha aperto un fascicolo per omicidio colposo.
Soltanto il corpo di Gianluca Benedetti era stato recuperato subito, dopo la notizia della tragedia arrivata giovedì scorso. Nelle operazioni di soccorso e recupero sabato scorso era morto un sommozzatore delle forze armate maldiviane, Mohamed Mahadi. Si era reso necessario l’intervento del gruppo di specialisti del DAN Europe (Divers Alert Network), inviati dal governo italiano. I tre sommozzatori finlandesi Sami Paakkarinen, Jenni Westerlund, Patrik Grönqvist lunedì hanno individuato i corpi e tra ieri e oggi li hanno riportati in superficie. Un recupero a tappe con i sommozzatori e la polizia maldiviani. Ieri erano stati recuperati i corpi di Monica Montefalcone e Federico Gualtieri.
Sia i computer addosso alle vittime che le GoPro indossate dai sommozzatori che hanno recuperato i corpi potrebbero chiarire le cause della tragedia che restano ancora sconosciute. Le autorità maldiviane hanno messo tutte le attrezzature recuperate sotto sequestro. Le salme verranno rimpatriate, saranno effettuate le autopsie. Al momento la pista ritenuta più credibile è quella della perdita dell’orientamento all’interno della grotta. Non si esclude il cosiddetto “effetto Venturi”, ovvero la possibilità di esser stati risucchiati da una corte molto forte mentre stavano soltanto effettuando un sopralluogo dall’esterno delle grotte di Alimathà.
