Il Fatto Quotidiano: Recuperati dalle grotte delle Maldive gli ultimi due corpi delle sub italiane Muriel Oddenino e Giorgia Sommacal

Alla fine sono stati riportati tutti in superficie. Il team di subspeleologi finlandesi ha recuperato i corpi dei due ultimi sub italiani morti alla Maldive il 14 maggio durante un’immersione in una grotta a oltre 50 metri di profondità.
Si tratta di Muriel Oddenino e Giorgia Sommacal. Le immersioni erano riprese la mattina del 20 maggio, dopo che ieri i sommozzatori avevano recuperato Federico Gualtieri e Monica Montefalcone. I loro corpi si trovavano nel terzo ambiente delle grotte di Alimathà, la parte più profonda.
Nei giorni scorsi era stato possibile recuperare solo il cadavere dell’istruttore capobarca, il padovano Gianluca Benedetti, la quinta vittima, perché si trovava all’ingresso della grotta con le bombole completamente scariche. Le ricerche erano state interrotte il 16 maggio per la morte di uno dei sommozzatori maldiviani, il sergente maggiore Mohamed Mahudhy. Muriel Oddenino è di Poirino, è una ricercatrice dell’ateneo genovese e originaria del Torinese.
Giorgia Sommacal è invece la figlia della ricercatrice Montefalcone, morta con lei. Mentre i corpi verranno portati oggi in obitorio, la Procura di Roma ha già aperto un’indagine per per omicidio colposo. In base a quanto si apprende, i pm di piazzale Clodio disporranno le autopsie sui corpi appena rientreranno in Italia.

The last two bodies of Italian divers Muriel Oddenino and Giorgia Sommacal have been recovered from the Maldives caves.

Finally, all the bodies were brought to the surface. The team of Finnish subspeleologists has recovered the bodies of the two last Italian divers who died in the Maldives on May 14th during a dive in a cave at over 50 meters deep.

They are Muriel Oddenino and Giorgia Sommacal. The dives were filmed on the morning of May 20th, after divers had yesterday recovered Federico Gualtieri and Monica Montefalcone. Their bodies were found in the third chamber of the Alimathà caves, the deepest part.

In the days prior, it had only been possible to recover the body of the boat instructor, Gianluca Benedetti from Padua, the fifth victim, because he was at the cave entrance with the tanks completely empty. The searches had been suspended on May 16th due to the death of one of the Maldivian divers, Sergeant Major Mohamed Mahudhy. Muriel Oddenino is from Poirino, she is a researcher at the Genoa university and originally from Turin.

Giorgia Sommacal is instead the daughter of researcher Monica Montefalcone, who died with her. While the bodies will be taken to the morgue today, the Rome Prosecutor’s Office has already opened an investigation for manslaughter. According to what is learned, the Rome prosecutors at Piazzale Clodio will order the autopsies on the bodies as soon as they return to Italy.
