Today in Labor History July 15, 1984: Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) was founded in London. They called for LGBTQ folks who were interested in solidarity work to create a network to support the nationwide miners’ strike. Eleven people attended the initial meeting, but the organization would grow rapidly, providing considerable financial support and solidarity work, building a lasting link between the labor and LGBTQ movements. In 1985, the London Pride parade was led by a contingent of miners.

#lgsm #pride probably my favourite film.

We aren’t in Syracuse much this summer so I’m especially excited to be heading to our minor league baseball team’s game tonight. #LGSM
When I first started learning about #LGBT history like #LGSM and the #HaysCode, I learned about these as things of the past. I grew up in a world that only reached its zenith about five years after and is in decline of queer legislation ever since

I witnessed the rise of YouTube and with it #queer vloggers with their #ComingOut videos and saw how people got more comfortable than I was when I came out. But unfortunately, this didn't last long.

Movies young and old, from fright flicks to cracking comedies, from the latest blockbusters to the rarest cult treats.

I keep a record of the books I read over the year and am going to attempt tooting them this year. 1. The book to accompany the film. It’s an oral history so quick to read and gives the clearest examples I’ve read recently about how the State was conspiring against the miners as well as gay history. A great book. #2023books #AmReading #MinersStrike #Pride #LGSM
