"Up in North #London is a neighbourhood which has become known as London's '#Jewishquarter'. Nearly half of people living in #GoldersGreen, in #Barnet, identify as being #Jewish.

Jewish people began to settle in Golders Green after the underground station was built there in 1907. There was an influx of #refugees in the 1930s, as people fled from #Nazi persecution.

The area has become known as London's 'Jewish quarter' as it is filled #Kosher food shops, restaurants and over 30 #synagogues where people come together to practice #Judaism. There are also 30 #JewishSchools in Golders Green, where younger generations learn #Hebrew, #Yiddish and other languages.

Many Jewish people keep kosher and to the laws of the #Shabbat. Kosher food, which sticks to strict preparation rules. can be difficult to find in some areas. But not in Golders Green, where there are around 50 kosher eateries under #rabbinical supervision."

Jürgen Stroop's internal SS daily report 16 May 1943:

"180 Jews, bandits and sub-humans, were destroyed. The former #JewishQuarter of #Warsaw is no longer in existence…action was terminated at 20:15 hours by blowing up the Warsaw #Synagogue…Total number of Jews dealt with 56,065, including both Jews caught and Jews whose extermination can be proved…Apart from 8 buildings…the former #Ghetto is completely destroyed. Only the dividing walls are left standing where no explosions were carried out."

This historic gable stone called “Die Gode Gehoorsaamt” meaning ‘He Who Obeys God’ is placed at Nieuwe Amstelstraat 68-74.

This stone, also known as “Iosue”, depicts the biblical passage from “Joshua 10”. It portrays the Battle of Gibeon, where Joshua conquers the southern part of Canaan from the Amorites. Yahweh intervened by sending large stones from the sky to strike down the enemy forces. ⚔️

Nieuwe Amstelstraat is a historic street, central to the city’s Jewish heritage. It houses the Jewish Historical Museum, showcasing Jewish culture and history in the Netherlands. The street also has several ‘Stolpersteine’ (stumbling stones) at several addresses, honoring Jewish residents deported and murdered during World War II. ✡️🕎

Another one I really liked: In Budapest's Jewish quarter this map had little bullet holes where one can peak inside and discover what the actual place looked like in the past. What a nice way to remember. #Budapest #Hungary #JewishQuarter #Holocaust #map #memorial
