“But for those who would benefit from online programmes, the rewards are clear. The flexibility of online learning is especially important for students, like me, whose symptoms wax and wane, making the ability to study and take exams when able to perform best essential”

Curtis's humiliation came from the fact that at his graduation, the ramp to get onto the stage was too steep & #inaccessible for #WheelchairUsers.

Curtis has #EhlersDanlos syndrome, a connective tissue disorder that causes joint dislocations & severe pain, which is why he uses a #wheelchair & has a service animal.

If you are a student (grad students included) and a professor or a supervisor denies your request for disability accommodations, just want to post this reminder that you're not without options. Some of these suggestions may entail more work than others, and none are a guarantee, but you are entitled to reasonable accommodations in the US. Yes, this really does include grad students.

Another potential resource for neurodivergent folks in #HigherEd is ReASoN. If you're looking for some community, check them out. They're relatively new and based out of the UK, but they have online meetings and speakers. Check out ReASoN's website for more resources and recordings of their talks.

Another resource I absolutely love is IncludEdu.

IncludEdu is a website for assistive technology. It's built for an audience of educators/younger learners BUT do not let that fool you. I have discovered lots of great plugins on IncludEdu.

You can search by Apple, Microsoft, or Google. Good source for accommodation ideas!

All The Things ADHD is a great podcast by two academics: @Readywriting and Aimée Morrison.

If you're looking for some particularly good places to start, I recommend S5 E8 Neurodivergent college survival tips, S4 E13: What if, wait for it, we didn’t have to fundamentally change who we are to be successful?, and S4 E21: The Sh*t Sandwich.

Another potential resource comes from Disabled Academic Collective. They did a thread a while ago on digital resources for disabled folks who wanted to find community online. They compiled the answers into "Community Resources" and posted it to their Resources page.
