-- Open Letter to Protect Tri-Council EDI Data --

"The recent motion by the House of Commons Standing Committee on Science and Research is incredibly damaging, unscientific in its approach, unethical, and puts equity deserving researchers and graduate students at risk."

"the CSCR just passed a motion to force the Tri-Councils to release [...] funded and non-funded scholarship and project applications, including confidential data about funding applicant's EDI questionnaires and information about their institutions, peer reviewer comments and more."

Kudos to #Canada's three major research-funding agencies for their draft all-green, zero-embargo, rights-retention #OpenAccess policy.

The agencies are the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (#CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (#NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (#SSHRC) — sometimes known collectively as the #TriAgency.

Draft, Revised Tri-Agency Open Access Policy on Publications

Preamble The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) ("the Agencies") promote and support research, research training, knowledge mobilization and innovation within Canada.

Apparently #NSERC, #SSHRC and #CIHR are transitioning away from the much hated Canadian Common CV (CCV) to a new "narrative style CV template". I can't wait for the CCV to go away soon enough. But I fear whatever they have come up with will be even worse.

The UK Cass report advocates clinical trials for all hormone-blockers and gender-affirming medications. A feasible, established practice in Canada and the UK for many therapeutics.

Individuals receiving trans care can participate in affordable research using routinely-collected data, an approach that is supported by the public and adheres to strict privacy and ethical standards—akin to vaccine surveillance during the pandemic. #CIHR #TransHealth #CassReport #PublicHealth #ICES #HDRNCanada

An Open Letter on Open Access - Slaw

Dear Tri-Agency, I was delighted to see your announcement last summer that the Tri-Agency, representing Canada’s major research funders (CHIR, NSERC, SSHRC), have decided to review your Open Access Policy on Publications. Your continuing efforts to increase the public’s ability to consult research and scholarship through this policy are admirable. Having seen your invitation for […]
