I am done with reviewing postdoc applications. DONE. DOOOOONNNNNNEEEE.
LLMs definitely are involved: the writing quality is much higher than in previous years. I hope that the applicants didn't use LLMs to develop their studies, but the time frame provided by the funding agency (looking at you, SSHRC!) does not allow careful thought about that.
Most disturbing though: in previous years, 1/5 or 1/6 applications were in French. This year: 0/36.
Status so far: 3 yesterday, 6 today. Of these:
- one likely written by LLM
- one with two reference letters written by the same person
- one with the same reference letter written by two people
That’s all I can handle for the day. 15 out of 36 applications done, 7 days until deadline (funding agency screwed up) #reviewing #academia #academicchatter #sshrc

Poverty is a serious issue that affects the Canadian population. The country's Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer (2SLGBTQ+) population is vulnerable to its effects. The 2SLGBTQ+ Poverty in Canada: Improving Livelihood and Social Well being project studies poverty in Canadian 2SLGBTQ+ communities. It will create an action plan through directed at policy makers, governmental agencies, non-profit, and private organizations.
