Less than two months until the #Solareclipse in Europe! Try out my Solar Eclipse Live App. It’s one of the best apps I’ve ever written. Super accurate. Completely free and ad-free. I just came across one of my own lecture notes on the internet. It was uploaded by a former undergraduate student who took the class. I can tell because the user name is equal to a name of a student who was in my class many years ago. And it's a pretty unique name. So I google the student. Apparently they are a lawyer now. Good for them! So I put my linkedin account to good use and sent a quick message to alert them to the "issue". 😉

Although floating point numbers only have a relative precision of 1e-16, I’m currently trying to find out which of my floating point operations leads to a relative error (bias) of 1e-20. It’s proving to be really hard. I’ve now reimplemented the entire algorithm is arbitrary precision so that I can check the statistical distribution of errors of individual terms. No solution yet, but at least I’ve narrowed down the problem somewhat…
