Since I like both old books and HTML, sometimes I run across old HTML books and hafta grab em. The other day I hit a thrift spot I hadn't been to & this one from 2003 was sitting there, just a dollar or two. Had to come home with me. You KNOW it has the CD-ROM with it. Remember CD-ROMs?!? 📚
One of the items I was given to "sweeten the deal" on my recent Mew promo purchase, was this CD ROM of Project Studio Red Version.
I never had it growing up, and unfortunately it's not compatible with modern day operating systems. I believe there are workarounds though!

Steele and Mackerel made things that were beautiful and human-centered, human-scaled and human-adaptable.

As I've gotten back into #pcgaming , I've been on a kick of getting some of my old games running on my current #Windows10 laptop. I have quite a few classics on #CDROMs from the #90s - #00s.
Since my #GPDWinMax #gaminglaptop has no #CDdrive or #DVDdrive , I've been using my non-gaming laptop to burn the disks to #ISO files to then mount as a drive to run the installer and game.
Of course, most of these go back to ~ #WindowsXP compatibility, so they won't play nice with Windows 10 out of the box (BTW, compatibility mode *never* works for me- if anyone has ever had luck with it running older software on Windows 10 that way, do let me know!). I either had to use #voodoo library files to fix issues like the video only being half displayed (or sideways!) or running the application file in #DxWnd.
Granted, some of these games are available on modern options like #GoG or #Steam , but hey, I paid for the games already. Why pay again if I can get my own copies to work? 🤣
I'm in agreement with you. I thought CD Roms were great. And then my friend pulls out his collector LP and puts it on his $1000 turntable and tells me to listen to what's missing. But I see no reason the fine resonance can't be included now we have better sound compression and optical technology.
