TIL more about the puritanical nonsense that still dogs this country: it is absolutely impossible for someone to ship anything containing alcohol, even to a member of one's own family.

USPS won't take it, and neither will UPS or FedEx, unless you have a liquor license and a contract in place with them to ship alcohol. For anyone wishing to do a one-off shipment to a family member, it's impossible.

I can throw it in my checked bag and bring it with me the next time I go visit, but what a load of nonsense. It's a bottle of brandy; I'm not running a drug cartel.
