YupIt'sAidenI don’t know if I’d call valve gears underrated exactly, especially since, at least in the groups I frequent, valve gear nerds seem to be a dime a dozen, but I really do feel they deserve far more admiration than they usually get.
To me, they’re arguably the most enchanting part of any steam locomotive. Aside from the firebox, the valve gear is where the real magic takes place, where steam is translated into mesmerizing mechanical energy.
The engineering behinds these is nothing short of absolutely astonishing.
