Gerade einem anderen Lehrstuhl geschrieben, dass sie jetzt ein frisch gestrichenes Büro haben, weil da wohl jemand in der Informationspipline die Raumnummer 0.10 zu einer 0.01 gemacht hat :D #academiclife
Ah, yes, the 🗝️ to being a scholarly genius: scribble illegibly on paper instead of using that pesky, user-friendly tech. Because nothing screams "modern efficiency" like deciphering your own hieroglyphs 🧐😂.

You spent months collecting your data. You documented... nothing.

Sound familiar? Metadata is the difference between data that's reusable in 5 years and a mystery folder called "final_v3_FINAL_real."

Good metadata doesn't have to be complicated. A few consistent habits go a long way.

FAIR Principles - GO FAIR

GO FAIR

An interesting study on humour in scientific talks (531 presentations, 870 jokes):

67% of jokes failed.
Only ~9% got real laughter.

Men joke slightly more, and native English speakers are more likely to succeed.

O yes... Joking in a foreign language is hard, and even in your own, it only works if the audience truly gets it.

#ChatGPT is excellent at summarizing #research papers or converting them to simplified English. It's especially helpful for preparing for a journal club presentation, which is just a burden in academic life that you can't escape. When I leave science, I will cite torturing journal clubs as the primary reason.

Whoever came up with journal clubs must be a real-life #loser.

It's always both a sad time and a joy to see early-career researchers move on, but it is also part of life as a senior academic. I mentored several people (not from my group) on dealing with microaggressions. I was happy to hear that one of the students whose PhD I recently supervised got a job at CERN this week. And as a final bittersweet goodbye I was excited to see someone else grow and spread their wings (going to my previous group in Brussels). #academiclife #professor #academia

Researchfish. What a fucking stupid name.
