The ruins of an abbey founded in the 12th century and abandoned during the 18th century.

The church took roughly 70 years to build - a reminder of the magnitude of such architectural endeavors.

Beer and cheese from the same abbey! A corresponding fresh grass and light yellow fruit fermentation character. The match is pretty good. Beer also has biscuit. Somewhat sweet, with a very light bitter in the finish. Quite bold for the low abv.

Sometimes a beer nerd does crazy things. I obtained this lineup of very old Maredsous beers. Half of them are older than me.

Left to right: 1977, 1979, 1981, 1984, 1988, 2003. Most are of the "6" variant (blonde, if you will), that is not supposed to age well at all. The others, I reckon, should not age very well either.
