@emilycolinauthor Best advice I ever heard was from Neil Gaiman - he never knows how to write the book he’s just about to write and if he did, he wouldn’t do it. You only ever know how to write the book you’ve just written (unless you’re a formula writer).
For me though, really important thing was to unashamedly call myself a writer and step into that for myself - to know I had the right to write. ❤️

We look for writing that catches experience before the crusts of habit form—poetry and prose that resist ideas about what a certain kind of writing “should do.” We seek out writers who tell their truths in their own words and convince us as we read that we’ve found something no one else could have written. The sun slowly follows him through the trees
He tries to outrun its setting

But even with all of that loss

Do you ever have days when you just can’t find the words?
I do and let my brain do its thing. Because I always find the words again if I keep coming back. Creativity is like water, ebbing and flowing like a tide. Sometimes it’s all fresh and new and you can’t write fast enough. Other times, it’s nerve-wracking and a grueling few-hour process to write one paragraph.
