While I can’t say everything, not yet, I can talk a bit about the scene. It comes later, towards the end of the novel. It’s the moment where Alistair confesses everything to Fenella. She’s the first person he has told (about who and what he is) in ages, and he comes right out and says it, even if it requires a bit of poking and prodding on her end. A confession of that calibre is pure bravery.

Vampires keep moths. Alistair is no different in this aspect. Moths find their way to vampiric creatures, often lingering nearby and finding comfort with them. I’ve gone into detail about this in the past. They symbolize a great deal in this supernatural universe.

#PennedPossibilities 986 — Check-In time! How are you enjoying working on your WIP? Are things going the way you planned, or has the outline somehow changed along the way?

I can’t recall ever enjoying something quite this much. Everything changed for me around the fifth chapter, and I’m loving the way things are going. I changed the universe’s entire lore based on a wild idea that came to me one night and my girlfriend told me to, and I quote, “go for it,” and I’ve changed everything about who and what Alistair truly is. It was a huge revelation on my part, seeing as I’ve written stories with him for over a decade. He’s different now, and it’s wonderfully refreshing and fun. What I’ve come up with, and how things have changed, added so much depth and substance to the story itself, and made a series all the more possible because this *has* turned into a series by now.

#PennedPossibilities 984 — Where does your MC feel the safest? Is there a particular person or object that helps them feel safe?

Alistair feels his safest when he’s at home ensconced in his castle. That’s his place of refuge. Dorcha Castle will always be the safest place in the world for he and Fenella, for Duncan, Caden, Hati and Samuel, et cetera. They all feel the same way.

#PennedPossibilities 983 — MC POV: If you had been able to choose, would you rather have been an only child or part of a very large family?

Alistair: I can’t remember my childhood, not anymore. I don’t know if I was an only child or one of many. It’s a depressing thought. But if I had to choose, and if in this scenario I was still a mortal, I would say that to come from a rather large family sounds comforting and I would lean towards that option. The more, the merrier. In the end, yes, I would rather have siblings aplenty.
