Based on my first lines of code written in the early 1980s and first publication I’ve been honing my skills in #software #development and #business since then.

My passion is software development in multiple #programming #languages and thanks to my demanding clients I keep up with current technologies being languages, #frameworks and also #networking, #operating #systems or operations topics.

#Agility and #self-organization require technical competence.

@ivory Is there a way to have a timeline that consists of several followed hashtags? And which then shows a combined view with the duplicated posts filtered down to one.

I am trying to wrap my head around this and thought I might ask and get some straight answers about #activitypub

I want to build me a little system that sends out messages to different social media services. I’ve already done that for Mastodon and Twitter as a prototype.

Now my question is: I know Mastodon has an API and I can talk to the Mastodon server my account is on. That’s what I have already. What benefits do I get if I were to use #ActivityPub directly? I don’t want to build an instance nor have users. It’s basically like a bot what I want.

As you can see I have a rough idea and am asking for some suggestions about which route to take. Thank you.

Better 404 design

There are exactly three things I want from a 404 page: Something approaching an apology An easy way to report the broken link Copy that might elicit a sensible chuckle This page only took a few minutes to make. The "let us know" link pre-populates the entire e-mail and is implemented in a Rails view thanks to a helper method that makes constructing mail_to links a little nicer: def mail_to_url(email, **options) "mailto:#{email}?

This whole discussion about not connecting the #fediverse to nothing outside like #bluesky or #threads is pretty astonishing. The #activitypub protocol is a W3C standard meant for global communication and there should be no expectation whatsoever to stay within a small tightly-knit community. People have been whining about #Mastodon being small and celebrate each time when it grows.

There is nothing wrong with the wish to be part of a closed and small community. Set up your own server and communicate only to those to your liking. Or set up a BBS as in the old days. There are plenty of ways.

But please don't expect a global system to stay small for what you perceive as being "for your protection". It was never meant to be that way and will not stay that way for long.

Get involved to create good visibility settings and similar things that are baked into communication protocols. Learn and use encryption where it matters.

After some 50 liters of #rain over the last two days I went out with the camera to document how the seasonal #creek looks like. The YouTube community around Project Granja Caimito had been making a lot of good suggestions on how to improve that creek for better #water #retention and today was a great opportunity to add some real world data to it and show how past [...]

Flowing Seasonal Creek

Every large undertaking will inevitably pivot at some point. Rarely do ventures go as planned. This article is about reflecting where we started, what happened and what might be the new direction of the project.
By the end of 2017 we purchased 45 hectares of Dehesa land in Andalusia, Spain. There have been a few blog posts about [...]

Granja Caimito - The story so far

Question about #fediverse and #pixelfed I understand that the #activitypub protocol is used throughout theses services but I don't really get the user experience just yet. If someone posts a picture on Pixelfed will that be federated and becomes visible to anyone using a #mastodon client only? It appears so but I'm unsure. Thanks for explaining.

Now that the landscape of social networks has widened I’ve thought a bit about how I can keep my content on my website and still reach people on the different networks. The result is a small JavaScript program that allows me to publish content from my blog, which was established in 2006, to X/Twitter, Mastodon and soon other networks.
My blog exposes an RSS feed. RSS is a way [...]
