Issa, in addition to being like a nurturing older brother to me, was very clever. To all the sellers and vendors we met, he would say, “This is the Little Doctor!” It wasn’t hard to believe him—I was the spitting image of my father—and that was the magic password. Instantly, I was surrounded, pampered, kissed, and we were offered anything we wanted.
