yesterday, for the beginning of the exam season, I gave a lecture on stress management. To demo Respiratory Sinus Arrhythmia, I built a little tool to show real-time ECG + heart rate from a Polar H10 in the lecture hall.
Students could see how breathing affects heart rate. The "aha!" moments were amazing : )

What @arikgrahl says! I also run my own Matrix server and smile every time I get to chat with one of my (very few) Matrix-native contacts there. For everyone else, bridges to Signal, WhatsApp, and Telegram provide access. While I still need to rely on these networks for now, this setup has the wonderful advantage of not having to check multiple apps several times a day—instead, thanks to my own server, I have all my instant messaging in one convenient interface. #DigitalIndependenceDay
Yesterday was #DigitalIndependenceDay! #Email is vital and predates the web. Though fully federated, it’s now dominated by large providers. Luckily, alternatives like #Posteo or #ProtonMail exist. The hoster #Uberspace also offers email if you like it more hands-on. For 10+ years, I run #Postfix + #Dovecot in my homelab: Relay outbound via my domain provider’s #SMTP and use #Fetchmail to pull inbound mail to my #IMAP server.
