I would suggest that Americans start watching international instead of US news sources.

Edit: see suggestions in the comments. Feel free to add more.

Edit2: some have been pointing to credible US sources as well.

I’m ashamed of this country.

We require a new law on military actions:

It is illegal for any member of the US military, or other government agency, to launch or engage in any military attack or action on foreign nations and individuals no matter who or where the order comes from unless one of the following is present:
1. The US Congress has passed and enacted into law a Declaration of War.
2. The US Congress has passed and enacted into law a declaration that some predefined and specific military action may be undertaken.
3. The United States is currently under military attack.
4. There is verifiable evidence that the United States is in imminent danger of attack.

Should anyone order a military action without one of the above their orders will be ignored. Any individual that engages in military action without one of the above will be removed from duty by any means necessary by any member of the military, or any member of the US government.

#Luanti / #Minetest is looking really good these days, especially for a free / #opensource voxel game; with water shaders, reflections, specular highlights, real time shadows, etc.

Thoughtworks Technology Podcast: Inside Bahmni: An open-source digital public good

Bahmni started life as an open-source hospital information management system and electronic medical record for a single hospital in rural India. Today, it has more than 500 implementations in 50 countries across Africa and Asia, and is recognized as one of only 165 digital public goods by the Digital Public Goods Alliance.  Thoughtworks played a key part in bringing Bahmni into the world back in 2012. And although today it’s run and supported by a coalition of organizations, Thoughtworks continues to have a leading role in the project as a member of its Governing Committee. To tell Bahmni’s unique story, Rebecca Parsons and Ken Mugrage speak with Satish Viswanathan and Angshuman Sarkar, two Thoughtworkers actively participating and contributing to the project. They discuss Bahmni’s origins and how it grew from a small, local tool to become a vital component in healthcare infrastructure in parts of the world that have long faced resource challenges.   Learn more about Bahmni: https://www.bahmni.org/

Please read this opinion piece by Johan Hansson, a theoretical physicist at Luleå University of Technology in Sweden. Here are a few excerpts...

I find it tragic that the world is governed exclusively by economists and is driven by economics, which is not a natural science, but just a human invention. There are physical limits to continuous economic expansion – a fact that most economists do not seem to understand.

In my view it is crazy to think that uncontrolled technological “development” and exploitation driven by unbridled and increasingly unequal capitalism will save us. It is what has plunged us into today’s crisis in the first place.

After all, if you are sitting on a tree branch that you are sawing off, and the ground underneath is burning, the solution is not to switch to a better saw – it is to stop sawing.

Role models like climate activist Greta Thunberg are trying to save those who, for some reason, have not yet understood how serious the situation actually is. To reach the climate pledge of limiting global warming below 1.5°C, the use of fossil fuels must completely cease by 2035, with zero deforestation and a drastic reduction in other greenhouse gas emissions. Yet according to the International Energy Agency, about 80% of the world’s energy today still comes from fossil fuels.

There is one option to reverse the current trend and that is to abide by Earth’s natural limits. Governments need to realize that rich countries must adapt their production and consumption to bring it below what is sustainable for the Earth-system as a whole. The only alternative to a planned and controlled downsizing is a forced and catastrophic global collapse.

Only degrowth can save us.

Johan Hansson argues that it will never be possible to meet our climate targets if countries continue their obsession with growing the economy
