"While Texas drowned, he danced.
With people still missing, he golfed.
He gutted the weather service. Slashed NOAA’s budget. As a result, the alerts came too late. 78 people died, including 28 children, with 41 more missing."
~ From Letters from God at Substack, in an email to subscribers
Either drastic cuts to NWS and NOAA budgets play a role — for weal or woe — in how those services function, or they don't. We can't have it both ways.

Pinch me! Last Tuesday Zohran Mamdani beat Andrew Cuomo decisively in the Democratic primary for Mayor of NYC and I am still in profound and happy shock. It seemed impossible that anyone would beat Cuomo three months ago, and extremely unlikely that Mamdani, outspoken critic of Israel's atrocities in Gaza
"Ministers are facing fresh calls to scrap VAT on all repaired and refurbished electronics, with businesses, charities and community groups arguing the move would help households cut costs and stop electrical goods being binned prematurely.
In a letter to the environment secretary, Steve Reed, the signatories say that removing VAT on repaired electronics should be part of a wider push to cut waste, extend the life of products and develop a 'truly circular economy'."

Now her job is helping companies recover from #AI drek they deployed on their websites. She frequently needs to rewrite the whole website
So our future is not employment to write copy/ code, but clean up AI disaster zones
It's Bastiat's "broken window" fallacy in #economics (the notion that breaking things stimulates the economy, but you're wasting your time treading water rather than making progress)
The next time a politician claims we can’t house the homeless, feed the starving or give medical care to the poor…. remember that they were able to build a concentration camp in 8 days.
We could provide for everyone if we wanted to, but instead we’re spending the money on fascist facilities and cutting taxes for the wealthy.
