The Seattle Public Library’s most popular VHS checkout in 2021 was the movie Say Anything.

This movie accounted for nearly 13% of all VHS checkouts that year.

The movie takes place in Seattle. It’s also the title the library has the most VHS copies of.

The library also has it on DVD, but the VHS copy was 4 times as popular. Huh.

A quick #introduction:

Hi! I’m Seth, #academic & #nature person. I'm an associate prof at Oregon State University's Dept #Fisheries, Wildlife, and #Conservation Sciences & director of the Oregon #Hatchery Research Center

My research and scholarship is focused on #salmon conservation and fish #biodiversity using available tools appropriately and in the right context (#habitat #restoration, #hatcheries, etc)

Looking forward to reestablishing and making new connections on here!

@LightHiker Never actually played Zork, but several clones! He was named Gru by the humane society, I think from the Minions series, but we thought Grue was more appropriate.

Hello, I'm Joe Mason, new here this week. I'm in Geography at UW Madison, studying and teaching about #geomorphology, #soils, and #Quaternary paleoenvironments in the Midwest, Great Plains, and northern China. I post about those topics, related science, geography of #Wisconsin, and all kinds of other things that catch my interest. Grassland and forest photos, #IceAgeTrail stories, complaints about academia.

Hello, world! I'm a #soil scientist from Iowa, US, working to support multifunctional landscapes and #climatechange adaptation. Moving to #Colombia in a few weeks.

@[email protected] I left mine up as a pointer for the folks still looking for connections here, but definitely considering deactivating in a few weeks.
To honor & continue the legacy of Tom Meixner we are fundraising via #AGU #Hydrology to support #ECR scientists from historically excluded communities. New #biogeofeminist stickers made with Tom's lab motto "Making the world better through biogeochemistry" will help kick off fundraising efforts

Mothballed my Twitter account this morning. Was already private, but deleted all tweets/likes older than a week and posted how to find me elsewhere.

Seems like a good sign for this place that I have seen others doing the same.

Almost forgot this one but it’s important.

- There ARE trolls in the fedi. Anyone can start an instance. Be cautious.

- You can mute users indefinitely or for designated periods. Good if you wish they would cool it but don’t want to disconnect.

- You can block users or entire instances from interacting w/you.

- DO report trolls. Good admins act fast & can block users from interacting w/the instance. If you feel safe doing so, report users to your admins AND theirs.
