Record 30,000 Endangered Central California Coast Coho Salmon Return to Mendocino Coast Rivers

Back-to-back record spawning seasons suggest that reconnecting tributaries and restoring salmon habitat is supporting Central California Coast Coho population growth. NOAA has funded more than 100 restoration projects on the Mendocino Coast.

What happens when daily life becomes unlivable?
In rural Alaska, it’s already happening: families leaving, clinics stretched, schools doubling as shelters, freezers harder to fill.
And the strain spreads.

Slims River diversion could be prompting Kluane chum salmon decline, study suggests
In 2016, the Kaskawulsh Glacier retreated and the Slims River was reduced to a trickle. The waterway was dramatically rerouted south, to the Kaskawulsh River. Since, all that water has flowed into the Alsek, emptying into the Pacific. That could be dealing a blow to Kluane chum salmon.

Why this tribe is buying up hundreds of acres of farmland — and flooding it

A new levee built by the #StillaguamishTribe separates farmland from newly restored #wetlands

by John Ryan, May 3, 2026

"Tribal officials say their habitat projects will help people as well as #salmon the next time floodwaters rise.

"With restored #floodplains, more of the #StillaguamishRiver's destructive surges can spread out and dissipate before causing harm.

"The Stillaguamish Tribe built a new levee last year, farther back from the river, before removing the old levee.

" 'By giving the river more space, we are reducing the damage and the expense to society to maintain infrastructure. It's cheaper to maintain if you stay further away,' Griffith says."

When I was redecorating my apartment, I used to spend quite some time at Ikea Trondheim. I had several meals at their restaurant on those days. The food there is inexpensive, but the taste and the quality is good.
