I wrote this article about difficult scaling in video games back in 2016 and it never really got any engagement.

It was actually one of the things I enjoyed writing the most, but the stuff that gets more read tends to be stuff like development tips.

Anyway, if you are bored and looking for something to read about video games, this exists.

Gaming: The difficulty with difficulty - Iain Collins - Medium

Difficulty modes in the 1980s console games allowed them to cater simultaneously for casual, less experienced, gamers while still providing appeal to a more hardcore audience — those who’d already…

Hi! I've been here for a while, but things really took off last few days Time for my #introduction.

I'm Ellen, 35 years, and i spend most of my available time either making NES displayable graphics, music & games, or the tools to make them in, or socializing in communities dedicated to the same things.

One game that's out is called Project Blue. It's a neat flick-screen platformer. Two more are actively in development.

WHO I AM (hashtag edition)

I am a freelance environment generalist/ solo gamedev working on a game called "Hellscreen" And it's basically Doom with a rearview mirror where weird shit happens and you can shoot behind you.

I post a lot about the dev process, including level design tips for Blender and general musings about making indie games.

I sometimes post micro tutorials too!

you can add "reddit" at the end of any search query and it will likely give you what you want in form of a post that asks a question you are interested in. Reddit should be a search engine lol
I just did a talk about Mastodon for a Canberra radio station. When I told them it is run over a decentralized network of servers the radio host replied "that sounds like a recipe for chaos!?". I clapped back with a longer explanation as to why not, but felt like saying, "Umm, you have heard of this thing called the 'Internet' right? How do you think it works?"

Heehee, I love the local timeline! I just keep finding moots from twitter. (And also people I never even saw on twitter before!) Slowly my feed is shifting from "placeholder toot, let's try this thing out" to just... Genuine use of the platform. Carry on with our fun tweeting only we call it toots now.

PLUS everyone gets to share their favourite old projects again and roll out their greatest hits!

Spent a bit of time setting up custom keybinds for coc.nvim, I think I'm satisfied for now #vim
