I played a lot of The Last Starship, and while it is quite fun, it has an extremely severe economy problem. Everything boils down to money, and money is trivial. More than just buying a station's ore, turning it into ingots, and selling it back, you can literally bottle up their own atmosphere and sell it to them infinitely, forever.

Even mining is busted, since all minerals are available in nearly all deposits and they're infinite.

This is a common space game #GameDesign problem, let's talk.

If you're having a hard time with creating the first two minutes of your game, the first thing to internalize is that you don't have to explain.

Still, if you think of your game's mechanics and interactions as a way to convey who the main character is and what they think like, a lot of fun avenues open up. Genre title or not.

My 4yo just designed his first game and it's actually functional. See, you each get a large d6 die, and you have to roll them into the triangle he drew on the A4 sheet. If its not in the triangle, then you lose (unless both miss, then you go again). But here's the kicker, you can knock the other player's dice out. If both are touching the triangle, then the highest roll wins.
