The second phase of making the lactic acid bacteria (LAB). Adding the pure stock 1:10 to whole milk. After a few days to a week three layers will form.
A cheese layer on top, a sediment layer on the bottom and a layer of LAB in the middle. The top and bottom layers are added to the compost. The middle layer will be mixed 1:1 with unrefined brown sugar to make a shelf stable LAB for use as a multi purpose garden amendment.

I made a neighbour’s unwanted picket fence panel into a quirky, rustic gate for the recycled chain link fenced bed. Debating whether to paint it (green or berry red) or not.
Maybe for future colour I’ll be able to make enough blue dye from the woad that’s growing at the front of the plot. #Allotment #Gardening
Three weeks on and there’s not much difference to be seen with the hoverfly lagoons.
Hopefully they are on the way to becoming hoverfly irresistible habitat.

I painted the wonky gate but didn’t bring the post rammer to fix the wonk. A job for another time.
I’m doing an overwintering rye grass removal trial of sorts. One area had the rye grass dug 😱 in. Another area the rye grass was weeded out with a ho-mi hand tool and a third area the rye grass is being cover killed with cardboard.
Green manures of trefoil, vetch, crimson and red clover, fenugreek and alfalfa have been sown for fertility as the beds won’t be planted up until late May. #Allotment
