And another experiment with Shine Stacker to macro stack. Very buggy on start up, but when it works, it works well.

iNaturalist suggests this is a Seedcorn Maggot (Delia platura; 🇩🇪 Bohnenfliege).

And lastly, a new spider today.

It was hanging upside down in a dense bush, so I couldn't get a shot of the topside, but iNaturalist is convinced that it's a stretch spider, genus Tetragnatha.

It's best guess is T. extensa, the common stretch spider, but the compact abdomen might suggest T. obtusa, the blunt stretch spider.

I'm rubbish at ID'ing flies, & the best I can do here is suggest that it's a root-maggot fly (family Anthomyiidae) of some kind.

But more importantly, it was mostly (but not quite) still, so I got the chance to make an 11-image macro stack, & then try the new, free Shine Stacker software.

Not bad for a first go – will experiment some more.

From the same night-time office window session, one of my old garden friends – a male false blister beetle, Oedemera femoralis.

The chunky thighs are the giveaway.

There were quite a few moths too, so maybe I should set up an illuminated sheet & see what else I can photograph.

Rain overnight & colder today, so the garden is quiet.

But here's something different from last night: a common green lacewing (Chrysoperla carnea; 🇩🇪 Gemeine Florfliege) on my office window.

And finally, a mystery spider.

The profile is like a thin-legged wolf spider (genus Pardosa), of which we have lots in the garden.

But none of those (a) have two parallel sets of white dots on the abdomen, (b) feed on flowers, & (b) leap miles to reach said flowers & then fly off, ballooning on their dragline.

Completely baffled. Anyone?

Bonus beastie from earlier today.

A Southern Small White butterfly (Peiris mannii; 🇩🇪 Karstweißling), which finally, after days of taunting me, settled down for a quick photo.

There are other species flying around I want to get pictures of, including a small blue something, a tortoiseshell, & prettiest of the lot, an Orange-tip.
