TERFs will be all "we support diverse gender expression for women so long as you don't identify as another gender", and then when you look at them they're a clone army of middle-aged white women in frumpy clothes and haircuts who you know are shooting dirty looks in the supermarket at any girl who has dyed hair, piercings, or a skirt above the knee.

Gender policing is gender policing. The self appointed judges of who is "allowed" to be a woman also inevitably police what those women are allowed to look and act like.

The trans community spans all walks of life and all forms of gender expression, and celebrates diversity because we know how precious it is to be able to be an authentic version of yourself.

And I have yet to meet someone with a genuinely nonconforming style who is transphobic. They've had the same insults thrown at them as we get, they've been through the same battles to be allowed to express who they are inside.

Freedom to express yourself however you like and freedom to identify however you like are the same battle, and anyone who claims the two are in opposition is just sowing false discord to undermine both.
