Hey fedi

Now that we've got a tiny amount of executive function back, we're resuming our search for another job. Our current one is causing us depression and anxiety, whilst exaccerbating our feelings of RSD and imposter syndrome ๐Ÿ˜ž

Due to needing to keep our work and non-work identities separate, we can't say whom we work for or in what specific capacity. However, we can say that our present role is within the non-profit sector and involves engagement with supporters and fundraisers.

We're in the difficult position of having soft skills, qualifications, and experience that do not match particularly well with most jobs, especially when our own needs (AuDHD; mental health struggles) are factored in

We're looking for employment that:

  • Is actively neurodivergent (AuDHD) and mental-health accessible and friendly.
  • Is fully remote (with occasional exceptions for travelling to events).
  • Understands the importance of reasonable accommodations and work-life balance.

We've worked in the banking (urgh), financial services (urgh), education (meh), and non-profit sectors.

Jobs we genuinely cannot do (and cannot learn to do):

  • Anything IT related (except building a PC).
    • I.e., no coding, networking, programming, first line support etc.
  • Anything related to statistical analysis.
    • We didn't study maths beyond GCSE and could only manage an A back then.
  • Anything involving teaching or tutoring.
  • Anything requiring using a telephone (especially answering one).
  • Anything requiring sustained physical effort or focus.
  • Anything unethical.
  • Anything with long, early, late, or changing shifts.

It's not like we don't have skills and don't want to do anything: we just can no longer do something that we don't care about, where we can't do an excellent job, and where it doesn't lead to anything positive.

We don't expect to earn more than the real living wage, which is currently ยฃ12.60 p/h outside of London.

In an ideal world, our work would be what we actually choose to do in our own time: help other trans people with their transitions and to get started safely on HRT. But no-one's gonna hire us to do that ๐Ÿ˜ž

And no, before anyone suggests it, us starting up an OnlyFans or Fansly isn't an option for us, but we appreciate the thought.

The computer crashed and I lost all twenty tabs I had up on my browser. Of those I hadn't bothered to bookmark I am trying to recall how many were necessary enough to find again. There was also a blog entry I started to type that was recovered.

"I suggested an idea to someone I would consider a friend. It wasnโ€™t well received. They weren't into anything at that moment in time. It frustrated me but like so many things these days I have no control over. Visiting friends."

I won't finish that stream of thought and will instead summarize with a photo.

When I visit a certain friend I take a picture of a bridge in town.

๐Ÿฅณ Happy Fediversary to The Novemberists, folks who quit Twitter and joined the Fediverse en masse in November 2022.
I know what to do with all this anger. If I couldn't turn anger into action, I'd be in a different line of work. But I don't know what to do with all this grief for the things that I wanted to do and to build in the next few years that will never happen now.

Well, Shit.

This week on #StainedGlassWoman, it's time to look at some practical tips and realities about what's coming after the most recent American election, how we can get ready, and what real and substantive protections we have in place right now that'll help us fight the fight we need to fight.

Shoulder to the boulder, folks. Time to get to work.

Hey fab fedi folks

If you're in England, you can sign up and vote for changes you want to see in the NHS on their "Your ideas for change" page on the Change.NHS website.

For example, there's a petition to formally ask for the NHS to move to an informed consent model for adult trans healthcare

It would very be lovely if lots of folks in England signed up and upvoted this, and shared with as many others as they can  ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ‘ˆ

Boosts very welcome and appreciated

Edit: Corrected UK to England. Apologies, as we thought it was UK wide, but it seems to be part of the "10 Year Health Plan for England".

Hey folks

For those considering fleeing the US to Europe in light of the 2024 US election results, we recommend that you check out these resources:

  • The Trans Health Map 2024 by TGEU (Trans Europe and Central Asia).
    • You can view it in map or raw data format.
    • It is a good starting point to help you determine whether you could even get care there for yourselves, and it highlights where having a disability, being neurodivergent, and/or struggling with mental health may hinder your access to healthcare.
  • The 2024 Rainbow Map produced by ILGA-Europe.
    • This is particularly useful for seeing how poor LGBTQIA+ rights are in many countries, against what the common perception might be from a US viewpoint.

There are lots of other considerations you will need to take into account, but we wanted to make you all aware of these resources to help you along ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ

Boosts welcome to spread the info to others

Edit: Here is some additional relevant context, as pointed out by a lovely comment

These maps are essentially display the legal situation, which does not necessarily reflect how things are done by hospitals, doctors, federal officials etc.

These maps also do not, by themselves, show how many extra hurdles there can be to obtaining healthcare, especially trans+ healthcare, as a migrant, and especially if you do not speak a native language fluently.

Please also note that some countries might have healthcare monopolies or a figurative geographical lottery on healthcare.

Basically, you really need to do your research before moving, including asking other migrants what their experiences have been.
