Nothing like an eclectic day after months of editing Book-5.
Yesterday, I setup my journal for April and at last made a diagram of the Brick Palace, which I should’ve done five years ago.
Using the diagram, I’m making fixes to the novella before its targeted edit. What a difference that’ll make, instead of the characters seemingly always in the same room.
I’m already happier.

The Book-5 targeted edit is COMPLETE.
It’s 13K shorter at 112K total. I now turn to Trellis House, the novella that’ll be published with it.
Trellis House (31K currently) is kind of a bonus, but it also serves to bridge the gap between Books 4/5 and Book-6.
Looking at the series as a whole, Book-6 is the build-up to the series’ climax. Next, I’ll publish Book-4, the midpoint.

The editing project begun on January 1st draws to a close. My methods are tedious, but only cost me time, which I have (until I don’t, of course).
Too, done isn’t exactly Done. I will next perform a targeted edit on the novella, Trellis House, which is much shorter.
That, though, is later. First, there’s anticipating the end, and finishing.

The march is done (for now).
It was an experience that will influence me in the future. When we experience life we value it more, and are more willing to fight for it.
As Riparia notes in Book-1, you can’t replace the past, you have to build a better tomorrow, and that requires vision.

I’m close, but will lose a block of time today at the No Kings march downtown.
To aid my writing self, I made certain I’d have a fairly short chapter to work on tomorrow, and then got a head start on it last night.
Even if I fall behind today, that’s okay. Democracy comes first. If it didn’t for all of us, there would’t be a democracy.

Thank goodness for reading a book on the side while I’m performing a targeted edit.
Here’s the thing about targeted editing. You jump randomly around chapters. I may know the story, but there’s no sense of advancement because that’s the idea.
It’s great for focusing, but you never feel like a reader. You want that, but it can wear on you.

It’s crazy, but I began worldbuilding Carrdia and writing its first story simultaneously, including realizing I needed at least a preliminary map.
I grabbed a scrap sheet of paper, flipped it over, and went wild sketching. At least 85% of that map endured.
What would’ve happened to my stories, I wonder, if I’d sketched a different map?

I miss mapmaking and have been reviewing old ones. The original Tremjara map is from 2002 (created in Paint). Dimensions: 754 x 531 pixels.
The 2020 Tremjara map’s dimensions: 4800 x 3200 pixels.
If you zoom in on the old map it blurs immediately. That land maze in the NW? Scrapped in 2003. The color palette was severely limited.

I was the teen who never revised in school, though, in those days I had to rewrite papers by hand. I detested doing that, so I endured the red ink.
Now, I have to guard against over-editing, placing word efficiency ahead of readability. It’s the battle between my practical and creative sides.
It’s my practical side that plans and organizes.

Why? The novella, Trellis House, serves as a bridge between Books 4 and 6. Confused yet?
On the timeline, Book-5 occurs simultaneously with Book-2, but would spoil Book-4 if published sooner. So, the series steps back, then moves ahead with the novella.
