6:40 literally could apply to the parent as well. How old is the kid? Is this developmentally appropriate regardless of parenting history? Is the parent doing well mentally?
Did something change at school? Are they watching a snotty TV show or streamer encouraging this? Do they have some unmet need they're not communicating?
I'm not a parent (yet?) but I had a terrible childhood. Bits were great, bits were awful, and mostly meh to eurgh. Kids pick up intent.
You could probably use authoritarian techniques sparingly with (GENUINE) intent to help them be who they want to be, in the most sustainable, healthy way possible. Or you could use (perhaps excessively, perhaps expectedly) gentle parenting with the attitude of "but I'm _doing_ what the book _said_! [so it should just *work*!]"

We all need the combination of "cause influences effect"
*and* "you are not your behaviours"
*and* "I believe you can choose better".

Authoritarian parenting uses your kid to make you feel better. Overly permissive parenting doesn't help anyone. It's a false dichotomy, ignoring a kid's part in any given situation.
Like... obviously parents need to self-regulate. *and* obviously millennials (and zillennials or whatever) are burned out.
*and* we need to all support parents and carers more.
*and* if talking a bunch isn't working, then obviously they're not listening or overwhelmed or whatever.

*and* like you said, shouting can be the perfect response to an urgent situation.
E.g. I hate my mom's parenting, and it was her best, and it was under extreme duress. Even so, a good example was me walking into the road as a toddler or a bit older. She pulled me back and shouted in fear, which was proportionate to the threat of death by car.

@MxVerda Interesting information, thanks it'd been a while since I read it. I haven't seen the sinus problems, but I do have a lot of problems with drowsiness in the morning, which is when I take it. Maybe I should try splitting it up or taking it at night instead.
