Damn.. Feels like more bad news than good is here.
My father in law died yesterday at 10am. Unlike a lot of "* in laws", both were dear friends to me.
He called us 2 days ago, saying he needed help cause his legs wouldn't work and needed help out of the chair. We were close by. He asked to eventually go to the ER, and we weren't able to help him. Called 911.
When he got to the hospital, was queued for emergency cardiac surgery. He coded 3x, then 2x overnight.
My wife followed his direct wishes and ordered termination of life support at 10am. Everyone who knew him affirmed that was what he said for the last 60 years of his life.
We're now having to do the terrible paperwork. My wife is the only child and grandchild. It falls on her, and I support her.
And yeah, we were going to go to Gettysburg next spring.

I had a humorous text exchange today... grandma's social worker was like "I called transitional care, got voicemail, do you know what the plans are with her?", and I'm like "Oh yeah, she's at XYZ cremation.", just completely matter of fact.
Then I had a solid cry., because, I mean, grandma's dead.

It's Friday. The first Friday of 2026.
My new years resolution is to survive. That's all I have, that's all that matters. I want to get healthier, I want to finally accept myself for who I am, but I don't want to be disappointed if I fail my resolution, so my resolution is something I'm sure I can do, survive.

I need to work on my attitude. I've been deeply angry and grumpy for the last 6 months, and I don't know how to change that state. I've had moments of happiness here and there, but haven't had anything lasting. No feeling of joy. Just deep, dark anger.

It is the new year! I’m also hoping to get healthier this year, and been noticing some really bad mental health signs… so I have therapy on Sunday.

@dntlookbehindu and others, the most effective antidote I’ve found for anxiety and anger and bitterness is the slow, consistent, and intentional practice of gratitude. Somebody I love once wrote “spiritual formation is the slowest of all human movements”, and learning to be very patient with myself in this area has also helped.

@rallias this past week was about a month long, but I am resting (physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually) and recovering as I prepare for the week ahead (and another trip, albeit a short one).

Earlier this week, Blue Man Group was performing in Bloomington IN. We had mid-orchestra tickets. They were really good seats but kinda far back. But thats fine!
20 minutes in, 3 people try to sneak in the show. Red warning lights start pooping up "WARNING LATE COMERS SHOULD HAVE GOT HERE 20 MINUTES AGO" with video feed and all! Its was monty-pythonesque, MST3K, funny repeating humor and all. Really set the tone!
So.. Halfway through, the 3 Blue Men start going alllll through the audience. Had cameras on all 3 of them.
1 came up to me! He looks at me, and my friend and wife were pointing at me. I saw cause my peripheral vision is great. I looked at them and faked confused then looked back at the Blue Man... And got "horror on my face" (jokingly).
I was selected.....!
I and another lady was brought to the stage. We were there for like 10 minutes! I sat at one end of 5 chairs, the 3 Blue Men, then the lady. They handed us each a red phone that were were tensely put in a situation. Of course, the audio was piped to the completely full (3000 people) auditorium! NO PRESSURE HAHA
I know a bit of Commedia del'arte, and immediately fell back on that, bringing my bewildered partner through as well. I did what I thought was pretty good! We then had a sham wedding, and then paraded down the aisle out the front doors. And that was like 10 minutes of stage time completely improve with Blue Man Group!
Afterwards, the show ends. And I'm waiting for my friends to catch up (bathroom). Evidently I did a bang up job. I had like 20 people compliment me. 3 asked if it was staged - nope I had NO clue.
The next 2 days, out in the city, was like "great job acting!"
Its kinda surreal, honestly. But damn, talk about a show I won't forget!

So Blue Man Group has a hard prohibition on video, pictures OR audio recording.
And given that they have no issue in shaming late-comers... They'd probably shame you, put you on the big screen, and publicly kick you out 😁

@TheDrPinky for the second year in a row, we are going to watch UCLA gymnastics on Valentine’s Day (my wife is a big fan, as are the couple we are going with). It was fun last year, and it’s definitely different than anything we’ve done in past years :)
